In 2010, the Regional Health Directorate of the Lombardy Region approved the “Guidelines for the remediation of installed articles containing Synthetic Glass Fibres”, which – in the absence of national legislation – have also become the reference point for INTERECO SERVIZI in managing such interventions.
The term SVF identifies a wide variety of inorganic fibrous products obtained synthetically, for example glass and rock wools used for thermal, acoustic and fire protection insulation or refractory ceramic fibres that can be used for high temperature applications.
The guidelines for SFVs classified as carcinogenic provide for
remediation methods similar to those provided for friable asbestos. In cases less dangerous to human health, the remediation methodology is simplified, while still requiring the intervention of specialised operators, with appropriate training and
specific personal protection provisions.
